Family Day

hope, healing & community

August 25, 2012

9:00am-1:00pm

Liberty Station San Diego

Families Helping Families recognizes grieving as a process that we must “go through” in order to find some measure of peace after the loss of a cherished loved one. Join us for a day of support and healing that is designed to meet the needs of all individuals and members in a family.

Children’s Support Group (5-11): Children who have experienced the loss of a loved one will come together for a hand-on expressive arts session incorporating gentle facilitated conversation as a support tool.  FHF facilitators will work with children to create a memorial art project and participate in a facilitated discussion about grief and loss.

Teen Support Group (12-18): Teens will experience the power of peer support and facilitated conversation as a tool for understanding and integrating the grief associated with the loss of a loved one. Through experiential activities facilitated by Dr. Rochelle Perper participants will learn coping strategies such as how music and writing can assist with the process of grief and loss.

Mom’s Support Group: A gentle and supportive group for mothers who have lost a child, an opportunity for mom’s to share and support each other.  This well-loved group will be led Denise Hankins and a group of FHF moms who are part of our facilitator team.  Join this special group where moms come together for healing and hope through peer support.

Dad’s Support Group: Men are not always given the space to grieve or become busy “being strong” leading the way for their family. This special group is for fathers who have lost a child who seek support and understanding as they integrate the pain and grief following the loss of a child. Facilitated by founder Dr. Ken Druck and FHF Bereavement Facilitator Derrick Torrence this group gives men the opportunity to receive support from a group of their peers.

Heal Your Life After a Loss Support Group: Open to anyone who has lost a loved one and seeks support, this may include loss of a spouse, a partner, grandchild, adult sibling or a special friend. If you have experienced a loss please join FHF facilitator LaVon Switzer for an intimate group where you will find support and strategies for dealing with the loss of a loved one.

Family Day also includes the “Hope Loves Company” picnic, a community resource fair, Memorial bubble release and special visits from local therapy dogs
